One of the many variants of maccherone (macaroni) and one of the oldest formats born in Naples. They are so called because their name derives from the Latin-vulgar 'tortillare' which means spiral wrap. This format is traditionally accompanied by full-bodied sauces, and are perfect with meat sauce, and with vegetable sauces. Good also for pasta bake.
