This is a larger, fuller-bodied version of the classic Fusilli of Campania tradition, which in ancient times were made by hand according to a method handed down from 'mother to daughter'. This involved twisting a spaghetti noodle around a knitting needle with a very quick gesture and expert hands. The type of skill was very reminiscent of that of the spinners and in fact the term "fusillo" derives from "fuso", the tool the spinners used.
